(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Police are searching for three men who reportedly attacked a 30-year-old political activist in Karak on Tuesday, official sources said.

Ibrahim Dmour was leaving his house at around 7:00pm when he was reportedly approached by three hooded men who slashed his back with a paper cutter, Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said.

"The victim informed us that he managed to reach hospital with the help of a friend and gave us a good description of the vehicle" in which the perpetrators left the scene, he told The Jordan Times.

Dmour was treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds and discharged from hospital the following day, a close friend said.

"We do not have any idea who would commit such an act and we do not want to accuse anyone at this stage," added his friend, who declined to be named.

Dmour is an active member of the Karak Youth Movement, one of the many popular movements that have participated in the Kingdom's pro-reform protest drive over the past year.

Tuesday's incident was the second attack in less than 48 hours to target an activist in Jordan. On Sunday, Jordanian blogger Enas Musallam was attacked and stabbed by a hooded man in Jabal Luweibdeh.

The 21-year-old was near Darat Al Funun in the upscale Amman neighbourhood at around 7:00pm when a man wearing a hood and gloves reportedly grabbed her from the back and stabbed her in the stomach, threatening "to kill her the next time" if she did not stop her blogging on political reforms in Jordan.

Meanwhile, the PSD said police investigation into the incident indicated that Musallam was not attacked for her activism or her recent blog criticising a Royal family member.

In a statement issued yesterday, the PSD said the victim recently had several disagreements with her fellow activists and other close friends, and reported that "she was going through difficult times".

Also on Wednesday, the Lower House Public Freedoms Committee denounced the attacks against Musallam and Dmour, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The committee members cautioned about the repercussions of such attacks and their adverse effects on the unity of Jordanians, and urged the concerned parties to investigate the incidents.
