(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Bahrain's public schools have been targeted since 2006 with 50 arson and vandalism attacks, including 14 this year.

The Minister of Education, Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, told the lower house on Tuesday that such attacks could endanger the lives of students. "Unfortunately schools are easy targets for those vandals for being service organisations, hence to protect them surveillance cameras have been placed," he said.

The minister also stressed on the recruitment of more security guards to work round-the-clock to protect the institutions. The lower house rejected the government response refusing to withdraw a land allocated to establish the new headquarter of the Iranian Embassy.

"It isn't only Iranian embassy that was provided with a land but a number of embassies to support the diplomatic and democratic efforts in Bahrain," Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Abdullateef, told the MPs.

MP, Khamis Al Rumaihi, said that withdrawing the land allotment should be done out of respect to the feeling of Bahrainis.
