(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) gave its approval for the nomination of two Omani art forms Al Azi and Al Maidan as items to be considered for preservation.

The expert committee of Unesco for the convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) will be meeting in Bali, Indonesia, to select world art forms for the ICH in November.

Sayyid Said bin Sultan bin Yarub Al Busaidy, Director of the Folklore Arts at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, said that the ministry spares no effort to shed light and authenticate the rich Omani culture so that it could become part of the records of the global organisations and associations concerned with safeguarding the cultural heritage of nations.

Al Busaidy added that the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in collaboration with the National Committee for Education, Science and Culture has been working towards preparing the files for nominating the arts and presenting them to Unesco.

The files of Al Ayalah and Taghroud arts 2012 were also presented to the organisation for recognising them among the list of intangible cultural heritage. It is worth mentioning that Al Bara'a art qualified for the world ICH list in 2010.
