(MENAFN - Arab News) The Chairman of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), Ammar al-Hakim, and the Leader of al-Iraqiya Coalition, Iyad Allawi, have discussed on Wednesday the activation of the agreements, reached among different Iraqi political parties, to activate the national partnership to respond to the people's demands, an SIIC statement said on Thursday.
"The said discussion took place during a meeting, that took place in a meeting between SIIC's Chairman, Ammar al-Hakim and the Leader of al-Iraqiya Coalition, Dr.
Iyad Allawi," the statement, copy of which dropped in Aswat al-Iraq news agency, said.
It said that both sides had "discussed the most important political issues on the Iraqi arena, as well as necessity to activate the agreements, concluded among different Iraqi political parties, the activation of the national partnership and taking a united position in the Parliament and government, to satisfy the needs of the people."
The statement quoted Iyad Allawi as having told a news conference after the meeting as saying that "serious and detailed talks took place in the meeting about important issues, related to the (Arab) Region, including Iraq, especially towards the activation of the national partnership agreement and the implementation of its contents."
"We have agreed on the creation of a real partnership that shall carry out its commitments towards our generous people, aimed at achieving their demands and its demonstrations that take place within peaceful frameworks," Allawi said, adding that "there had been a compromise in viewpoints towards the activation of the agreement on the government of national-partnership."
Ammar al-Hakim, on his part, the statement said, had "highly assessed the honorable attitude of the Iraqi demonstrators, who took to the streets in a peaceful way, expressing their viewpoints and ambitions towards the future of Iraq," reiterating "that such marches, committing to the laws, the constitution and the public demands, are part of a constitutional right, though we must be aware of any sneakers that may harm the people's demands."
In conclusion, the statement, said that Iraq's Vice-President, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, had also attended the meeting.
