The Chamber of Deputies yesterday approved the provision of BD3.4 billion expenditure, BD2.1 billion continuous expenditure and BD905.4 million project expenditure in the two-year state budget, with a deficit of BD503.9 million. The expenditure budget for 2005 is BD1.4 billion and for 2006 BD1.5 billion. A sum of BD1 billion is specially set aside for on-going expenditures, including salaries and buildings maintenance, for 2005 and BD1 billion for 2006. A total of BD418 million is this year's budget for projects, while BD487 million will be spent in 2006.
The deficit is expected to reach BD308 million in 2005 and BD136 million in 2006.
The chamber also approved the revenues after including BD10 million from Alba's revenues. With that, the total non-oil revenues reached BD345 million for 2005 and BD360 million for 2006. The state revenues are BD2.5 billion, including BD1.2 billion for the current year and BD1.2 for 2006.
While reviewing the budget, the committee took into consideration the protection of financial resources, cost cutting, inclusion of social projects in the budget and stressed on the accuracy of the information.
FTA okayed: The Chamber yesterday approved the Free Trade Agreement with America despite Al Asala bloc and Al Menbar Al Islami Bloc demand to keep it on hold until the release of the six Bahraini detainees in Guantanamo Bay. Most deputies supported the idea, if it didn't clash with the kingdom's economic interests.
The Minister of Finance, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, said that through the FTA the Kingdom could strengthen its relations with America and call for the detainees' release.
