JEDDAH, April 3 (KUNA) -- An Iraqi official here Sunday hoped the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) would continue support to ongoing efforts to reconstruct government institutions in Iraq.

Dr. Mohammad Al-Shabibi, Iraq's central bank governor, called on the bank to continue involvement in the reconstruction projects in his country.

A statement by the Jeddah-based bank, issued after Al-Shabibi's meeting with the bank's president Dr. Ahmad Mohammad Ali, said both officials discussed bilateral cooperation and bank's assistance to reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

Ali said the bank was ready to provide technical assistance to build government institutions.

He said the bank was providing 500 million dollars to backing reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

Established in 1975 with a nine-billion-dollar capital, the bank is a financial tool used to fund development projects and encourage trade between 45 Islamic countries.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian capital, Amman, hosts tomorrow an exhibition to reconstruct Iraq with the participation of 980 companies.

A conference over the rebuilding of Iraq will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition. It will be attended by Iraqi and western experts to discuss relevant laws to reconstruction and infrastructure.

Amman hosted the first Iraq reconstruction conference in August 2003.
