AMMAN — Hundreds of local, Arab and foreign companies representing 32 countries are taking part in the 3rd International Rebuild Iraq Exhibition which opened Monday at Marj Al Hamam.

"The fair is a distinguished opportunity for all participants, traders and investors to contribute to the rebuilding and development of Iraq," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ziad Fariz told journalists as he toured the exhibition accompanied by Baghdad governor and several businessmen.

Fariz, deputising for Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit, described the fair as successful by all means in terms of the large number of mega-companies participating form various economic and industrial sectors.

On display at the fair, mainly organised by EXPO Jordan, are industrial and construction equipment, foodstuffs, pharmaceutical products, civilian and military vehicles and various other products.

The minister highlighted the role of the private sector and the benefits it can reap from the rebuilding of Iraq and the exchange of expertise and information with the international companies.

Stressing that the Jordanian-Iraqi ties are historic and distinguished, the minister emphasised that Jordan, due to its geographic location, plays an important role in ensuring the success of the projects aimed at rebuilding Iraq.

"Jordan has always facilitated the flow of goods to Iraq," he said underlining the Kingdom as a main gate for Iraq.

According to organisers of the four-day fair, the Jordanian pavilion is the largest wing in the fair as some 62 commercial and industrial local companies are taking part in the event.

Some 1,175 Iraqi officials and businesspeople are also participating in the event, they said.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, an economic conference on rebuilding of Iraq will be held for two days.

During the conference, working papers will be presented by Iraqi ministers of housing and industry, a Saudi expert and a large number of speakers from Jordan, Iraq and other countries.
