(MENAFN - Aswat Al-Iraq) The Basra Provincial Council approved on Friday 17 water and sewage projects, a local official said.
"The projects will be funded through the Provincial Development Budget (PDB) of 2007, 2008 and 2009," Jabar Ameen al-Lateef, the council's head, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He said that the projects will effectively contribute to solving water and sewage problems in Basra.
The oil-rich port city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
