(MENAFN) Apple Inc. said that it has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington against HTC, claiming infringement of 10 patents related to the implementation of operating systems, Bloomberg reported.
The complaint highlights intensifying rivalry between the maker of the iPhone and Google, whose Android phones increasingly challenge Apple's $13 billion smartphone business.
In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, Cupertino, California-based Apple claims infringement of 10 other patents, including one for technology that lets people work the phone by touching the screen with their fingers.
Android models helped bolster HTC's market share last year, making it the fourth-most popular brand for the devices after Nokia Oyj, Research In Motion Ltd. and Apple, according to market researcher Gartner Inc.
Taoyuan, Taiwan-based HTC declined to comment on the complaint, saying it needed time to examine the filings, Linda Mills, a company spokeswoman, wrote in an e-mailed statement.
