Website to help Jordanian nurses find jobs  

(MENAFN - Jordan Times) In order to secure Jordanian nurses jobs, the Jordan Nurses Association (JNA) will launch a career services website early next year, a senior association official said on Sunday.

The website will be launched at the beginning of 2010 to alleviate unemployment in the overcrowded sector, JNA President Khaled Abu Aziza told The Jordan Times.

The website, which will function as a link between job seekers and employers, will offer free recruitment services to around 2,000 unemployed Jordanian nurses, he said.

The website is to be launched as part of the JNA's celebrations marking Amman as the Arab Capital of Nursing, he added.

Through the site, nurses will be able to post their resumes to be viewed by local and regional employers, Abu Aziza said, noting that the JNA is currently in contact with a number of medical institutions in order to better understand the international market's needs.

"The problem of joblessness among nurses, especially males, is multi-dimensional and needs effective plans by state institutions to be tackled," Abu Aziza said, pointing out that 2,000 out of the 19,000 licensed nurses and midwives in the Kingdom are currently unemployed.

"The website is not likely to drastically solve this problem, but we are sure that it will help reduce the rate of unemployment," he added.

Approximately 14 universities in the Kingdom offer bachelor's degrees in nursing, producing 1,600 nursing graduates annually and creating an overcrowded local market. The JNA head predicted the number of unemployed nurses to rise substantially in the near future.
