(MENAFN - Alrroya) Dubai budget carrier flydubai will expand its GCC network as it launches double daily commercial flights to Bahrain starting December 13, the airline's chief executive announced on Wednesday.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, says the carrier is on track to meet its target of launching 12 destinations in its first year of operation with Bahrain being the 10th in its global network and the second in the Gulf network after Doha in Qatar.

'Our timing couldn't have been better since Bahrain's economy has been gaining plenty of foreign investments. There's a need for flydubai to be an alternative travel provider offering low-cost service,' says Al Ghaith.

The budget airline currently has five aircraft in service and expects another one to be delivered in December to meet the passenger demand in the routes it serves.

'We are expecting seven more aircraft to be delivered to us next year,' Al Ghaith confirmed.

He remains confident that the Dubai-based low-cost carrier will break even and become profitable in the next two years. It launched its first commercial operation in July this year.

Al Ghaith also discounted the possibility flydubai purchasing a superjumbo A380 aircraft to serve its routes. Yesterday, the La Reunion-based all-economy airline Air Austral has announced that it has ordered two Airbus A380s.

'For us, the fact that we are serving destinations within a 4.5-hour range from our Dubai hub, I don't see that the A380 will be [economically] efficient for us,' he said.

Flydubai's flights to Bahrain will be offered at Dh250 one-way, inclusive of taxes and other charges.

Meanwhile, the carrier also announced on Wednesday a long-term logistics partnership with Danzas AEI Emirates, a joint venture between Al Tayer Group and DHL. Danzas will take charge of all flydubai's logistics requirements such as transportation of consumables.
