(MENAFN) Dhofar Tourism Company said that the first phase of integrated tourism development Mirbat Beach project, which is worth $2.6 billion, is scheduled for launch in December, TradeArabia reported.
CEO of Dhofar Tourism Company, Osama Mariam, said that the project covers a landmass of two million sq. meters with residential, commercial, tourism and entertainment facilities that are slated to be completed over five different phases.
He said that when the project is completed, Mirbat Beach will feature over 1,600 residential units, more than 10,000 sq. meters of retail space and 10,000 sq. meters of office space, as well as embracing two luxury five-star hotels, 538 hotel furnished apartments, a 9-hole golf-course and clubhouse, and other entertainment facilities.
The first phase comprises a 234-room five-star Marriot resort besides Frankincense by Chivana and the Extra Divers Center. This phase marks the entry of Marriott chain of hotels into Oman.
Mariam said at the Tourism Development and Investment Exhibition (TDIE) 2009 that Oman has managed to see continued growth in tourism development projects, despite the shadow of the global economic crisis.
