(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Some 75 percent of business leaders in Qatar expect to see more restructuring cases in their sectors in 2010, according to a survey conducted by MEED.

Senior executives from companies across various sectors in Qatar were surveyed to gain data for MEED's Organisational Restructuring Masterclass event. When questioned about their plans, 73 percent answered that they were currently undergoing or planning on restructuring.

'Corporate restructuring' was most likely to be considered.

Restructuring seems to be the preferred strategy moving ahead, given the changing business dynamics following the global downturn.

Over 75 percent of respondents believe that a well organised restructuring initiative will give their company a competitive edge in 2010.

"In our experience, companies need to focus on operational as well as financial restructurings, otherwise they run the risk of facing similar challenges down the road" said Umar Saleem, Senior Director at Alvarez & Marsal. Saleem will be speaking at MEED's 'Organisational Restructuring Masterclass' which will take place in Qatar on November 16 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Doha.

This one-day event will bring together leading experts to discuss all aspects of restructuring in the form of four mini-master classes focusing on the implementation process, the legal issues to watch out for, operational considerations and financial implications.
