Fort Hood shooter not Jordanian  Join our daily free Newsletter

MENAFN - Jordan Times - 08/11/2009

(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, a psychiatrist in the US army who on Thursday killed 13 and wounded 30 others at a US military base in Texas, is not a Jordanian, a top official said on Saturday.

Several media outlets reported over the weekend that Hasan, who went on a spree Thursday at Fort Hood, is an American of Jordanian descent.

However, a senior government official, who asked not to be named, told The Jordan Times that all records and official documents in Jordan indicate that he is not a Jordanian national.

The official said all that is known about Hasan is that he lived in the US and has no Jordanian origins.

On Saturday, Agence France-Presse reported that the Muslim military officer suspected in the shooting deaths of 13 people was transferred Friday from a civilian to a military hospital in part for security reasons, citing a military official.

Hasan, who was shot by police to stop a rampage Thursday at Fort Hood, was moved to Brooke Army Medical Centre in San Antonio Texas.
