(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Projects under way in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi emirate would help boost tourism as they would develop the area economically, culturally and socially, the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said on Saturday.

Shaikh Khalifa was speaking after touring the region to inspect the petroleum, gas, developmental, housing, architectural and tourism projects. The visit also covered the five-star Qasr Al Sarab resort, located in the Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali), the world's largest stretch of uninterrupted desert.

Shaikh Khalifa was accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Also accompanying the President were Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region, Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Eastern Region, Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, Lt. General Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, other Shaikhs, ministers and high-ranking officials.

A banquet was hosted in honour of Shaikh Khalifa and his entourage at the Al Sarab Palace.
