(MENAFN) Solyndra Inc. said that it has started building the second phase of a massive solar panel manufacturing plant in Fremont, Bloomberg reported.
Solyndra's Fab 2 plant will produce 500 megawatts of energy year. The company said the construction will employ 3,000 people, and when complete, the plant will create more than 1,000 jobs.
The project is being financed using private and public money, including a $535 million loan from the U.S. Treasury.
Fremont-based Solyndra said the combined plant will make enough panels over its lifetime to cut 350 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
