(MENAFN - The Peninsula) The InterContinental Doha West Bay is set to open in December 2010, an official from the Doha InterContinental Hotel has said.

The new 60-storey hotel, which will comprise 540 hotel rooms and serviced apartments, will be the second InterContinental hotel in the country.

"The InterContinental Hotels Group decided to open the West Bay hotel to cater to businessmen and corporate events … Our hotel here is for relaxation, with the beach, the pool and other amenities. The other hotel will be a business hotel, a business centre with some serviced apartments," said Michael Koth, general manager of the Doha InterContinental Hotel.

Koth said the new hotel will cater to the rapidly increasing demand from both intra-regional and international luxury business and conference sectors.

The InterContinental Doha West Bay will have a conference centre, a club lounge and business centre available to business-class guests and will also offer luxurious rooms and amenities as standard.

Its food and beverage outlets will include an all-day dining restaurant and lounge, seating more than 200 guests, a steak house, and a Sushi and Dim Sum venue. Further restaurants will be located on levels 55 and 56.

A gourmet shop at the lobby level is being especially designed to support Residence Suites guests. A gym, spa and outdoor swimming pool will be integrated into the contemporary hotel design on the 46th floor.

Koth said the Doha InterContinental Hotel was planning to open its first Greek-Mediterranean outlet during Eid Al Fitr. He said the staff members for the restaurant had already been picked.

Koth said the restaurant, which was designed by a French designer living in Abu Dhabi, will showcase Greek and Mediterranean dishes.

On the same side as Mykonos, on the upper floor, Koth said they are planning to open a beverage outlet with a bar/lounge concept and a resident DJ to set

the mood.

The Doha InterContinental Hotel will have a busy schedule after the Ramadan period starting with the coming of Tamer Hosny, the Egyptian singer, actor, lyricist and composer, who will perform here on September 24 at the hotel's beach. The hotel will also host a beach party on September 25 to keep the guests in party mood.

Koth said the Doha InterContinental Hotel will celebrate Oktoberfest from October 6 to 10.

The hotel's Café Restaurant will serve Iftar and Suhoor buffets from 8.30pm until past midnight at its extension tent at the terrace, where a Ramadan tent has been put up. The Za Moda outlet will open from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. The Fish Market will also be available for private Suhoor and Iftar bookings for a group of approximately 100 people.
