(MENAFN) The General Director of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Mohammad Yahya Maroufi said that China may join Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight train, IRNA reported.
The 6500-kilometer-railroad has been launched with the aim of expanding goods transition between the member states of ECO. Mohammad Yahya Maroufi said China has announced interest in joining the train.
The project will bloom goods transition between ECO member states and regional countries, he said, adding that inauguration of the train has cut the time of goods transition from Pakistan to Turkey to 15 days from 40 days in the past.
The railroad is among ECO's major projects. 1,900 kilometers out of the 6,506 kilometer-long railroad passes through Pakistan, 2,570 kilometer through Iran and the remaining 2,036 kilometers passes through Turkey.
The train is carrying 20 containers, 14 of which were off-loaded in Tehran while the remaining six are for Istanbul.
ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states. Members of the organization include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
