(MENAFN) Morocco's telecoms operator Maroc Telecom has acquired a 51% stake in the Malian telecoms company Sotelma, for $385 million, to further reinforce its presence in Africa, Reuters reported.

The agreement was signed in Bamako by Abdessalam Ahizoune, Chairman of Maroc Telecom's Management Board and the Malian government, in the presence of Mali's president Amadou Toumani Toure.

Maroc Telecom also owns majority stakes in the Mauritanian incumbent operator, Mauritel (since April 2001), in ONATEL of Burkina Faso (since December 2006) and in Gabon Telecom (since February 2007).
