(MENAFN Press) SunGard Higher Education today announced that Darren Wesemann will be its new chief technology officer. Currently the president of SunGard’s Infinity business unit within SunGard Financial Systems, Mr. Wesemann transitions to the new CTO role effective June 1, 2009.

“SunGard Higher Education is facing enormous opportunity at a time when technology is an especially valuable tool for effecting change,” said Mr. Wesemann. “I am intrigued by the promise of what we can do to help institutions as they fight to overcome very difficult challenges. I am also looking forward to making a difference for the mission of higher education.”

Mr. Wesemann is a highly regarded technology leader. At SunGard Financial Systems he transformed how software is developed by creating the Common Services Architecture. At SunGard’s Infinity business unit he created and deployed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and cloud infrastructure models that offer customers new options for software delivery. Ron Lang, chief executive officer, SunGard Higher Education, said, “We need to innovate and Darren is a proven innovator. He brings speed, a strong customer focus, technical creativity and a wealth of experience to us and our customers.” He added, “We are committed to delivering the products and services that higher education needs and are investing in our long-term vision. I have worked with Darren before and look forward to doing so again.”

The new role of CTO brings together ownership and accountability of technology vision and execution under one executive. Mr. Wesemann will oversee all aspects of internal and external technology systems, uniting teams for development and IT.
