(MENAFN Press) Following the resounding success of International Financial Crime Prevention & Compliance Training (IFCCT)’s Advanced Financial Crime Prevention Symposium & Training Course last year, the dates for this year’s programme, to be hosted once again by the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, have been announced.

The three day event will be held at Sharq Village Hotel & Spa, Doha, between 7-9 June 2009.

IFCCT's Advanced Financial Crime Prevention Training programme was originally created to help the financial services sector address and counter the unprecedented challenges faced by constantly evolving and ever more sophisticated forms of financial crime.

In recent months a number of headline making frauds and alleged frauds have sent shockwaves through the global financial system – Satyam in India, Madoff in the United States, and L&G in Japan. Beyond these cases, many more do not even make the news. For those directly involved with anti-money laundering and organisational security, the pressure is increased by challenges which are new and unfamiliar to most executives and regulators today. These include managing risks in a downturn as well as adapting internal practices and systems to enhance competitiveness whilst countering malfeasance effectively.

The 2nd Middle East Advanced Financial Crime Prevention and Compliance Training Course will specifically address these and other recent developments to help Middle East based organisations fend off similar threats by enhancing due diligence, improving compliance procedures and applying the correct strategies to counter on-going and complex frauds.

Delegates will be addressed by IFCCT’s world renowned faculty, as well as by leading representatives of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority, Qatar Central Bank and numerous leading regional experts.

Peter Antell, Managing Director of IFCCT commented, “In times like these, discoveries of fraud, corruption and other forms of financial crime tend to increase. The key question is, how much evidence of that malfeasance would have surfaced had a downturn not occurred?

It is significant that our inaugural Middle East programme forewarned against many of the crime typologies that have become even more prevalent during the economic downturn. Techniques and methodologies covered during last year’s programme have proved very effective in aiding organisations’ internal security measures, improving coordinated regulatory effort and mitigating risks.

With global fraud estimated to have cost financial institutions and taxpayers tens of billions of dollars in the last year alone, there can be no doubt as to the gravity of the problem and the importance of educating and strengthening the ability of governments, banks, financial and other institutions to defend against further losses.

We are delighted to be returning to Doha and are confident once again of delivering a programme that will achieve these important objectives”

Stuart Pearce, CEO and Director General of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority said:
“Our support at the International Financial Crime Prevention & Compliance Training (IFCCT) symposium reflects our continued commitment to the development of the Qatari financial sector. We hope to help promote improvements in the quality of our legal and business environment, and adopt the best practice to ensure we are providing our existing business and prospect firms with the highest standards. Qatar Financial centre is pleased to host the second symposium in Qatar”.
