(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Royal Jordanian (RJ) has provided technical support and practical training to Mazen Qteishat, the first visually-impaired Jordanian specialised in travel reservations, using speech software and a Braille programme developed for blind people.
"This initiative… is part of the company's contribution and interaction with the local community, reaffirming RJ's keenness to exercise its responsibility vis-ŕ-vis the public, and especially towards those with special needs," RJ President and CEO Samer Majali said.
Employees from the national distribution department at RJ (Galileo) offered Qteishat technical training at home, enabling him to make travel reservations worldwide using the Galileo system through speech software and the Braille programme, according to a statement released by the airline.
Visiting Qteishat at home, Majali praised his experience and technical knowledge and presented him a basic reservation and airfare course certificate and a personal computer to facilitate his work.
Expressing his gratitude to the airline, the management and employees for the initiative, Qteishat said it gave him the opportunity to continue his career in the field of tourism, which he started 20 years ago in the US.
He noted that RJ helped him excel in e-reservation via the Galileo system.
Qteishat also expressed his gratitude to HRH Prince Ra'ad, who granted him an academic scholarship to the US at the age of 14, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and computer science.
He also took part in intensive computer and assisted technology training courses, as well as courses in software, speech software and Braille programmes, which helped him work successfully in aviation and travel reservations, according to the statement.
Qteishat hopes to some day establish his own travel agency and work from an independent office.
