Algerian trade minister Al-Hashimi Jaboub said Friday trade exchange between Algeria and Germany was USD 2.5 billion by end of 2005.

Speaking to reporters on the fringe of a meeting of the Algerian-German chamber of commerce and industry, Jaboub attributed the trade exchange increase to the Algerian exports to Germany.

He said the economic exchange between Algeria and Germany would further develop in the next years.

Jaboub said most of the Algerian exports to Germany were oil products, while the North African country imported industrial materials, food, chemicals, medicines, steel and metal.

The director general of the Algerian-German chamber of commerce and industry said Germany exported USD 1.3 dollars worth of goods to Algeria over the past two years, while importing USD 1.9 dollars.

He said Germany placed a great interest to boosting trade and industrial relations with Algeria.

The director general said the chamber would play a leading role to boosting German investments in Algeria, currently standing at USD 600 million.
