British banking giant Lloyds cutting 3,000 jobs 

Banking giant Lloyds TSB said Friday it was cutting some 3,000 jobs, or about 4 percent of its work force, as it reported sliding profits over the past year.
Lloyds said job cuts totaling 5,000 in its central and support areas would be partly offset by an increase of 2,000 staff in sales and service.
The bank reported a profit after tax and minority interests of 2.5 billion pounds ($3.55 billion) for 2001, down from 2.7 billion pounds in 2000.
