(MENAFN Press) Dubai Municipality has observed International Day for preserving Ozone Layer in accordance with United Nations General Assembly's guidelines to promote awareness among general public about the risk of gas emissions that result in depletion of the protect layer, informed officials with civic body.
The program was organized by the Awareness Section at Environment Department of Municipality.
'This year is being celebrated as the twenty fifth anniversary of the signing of Montreal Protocol which was made for committed efforts worldwide to protect ozone layer and thus our planet earth' said Hamdan Shaer, Director , Environment Department at DM while he addressed the awareness program.
'It was in 1994 that UN general Assembly announced September 16th as the International Day for the preservation of the Ozone Layer.
Marking this day, we all have to decide to minimize the activities that risk strength of this amazing layer' he added.
He said Dubai Municipality has planned workshops, lectures and other awareness events to educate students and children of this threat .
Awareness Section will share information regarding Ozone Layer and action plan to fight against the deeds that affect it negatively.
According to him, Dubai Municipality is to give maximum publicity to the online video contest that UN Ozone Secretariat has announced to spread the message of the Day.
This year, UN observes the day under the slogan 'Protect our atmosphere for generations to come'.
