(MENAFN Press) Dubai Municipality, in its committed efforts to develop new methods to tackle waste management issues in the city, has launched a new project to collect waste in underground containers, the first being fixed behind Al Manal Center near Naif Souq, said Abdul Majeed Saifaee, Director, Waste Management Department , Dubai Municipality.
The official launching of the first container, out of nine to be launched later, was done by Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General ,Dubai Municipality.
"DM has been always very concerned about the waste management issues in the city and this new project comes in its commitment to elevate the status of Dubai higher with regard to the cleanliness of the city" said Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah while he spoke after the launching .
"The underground container fixed in Deira is a pilot one. If it brings in positive results we have other nine more containers to be fixed in various parts of Dubai" he said further.
Eng. Yaqoob, head of section with Waste Management Department said the container will replace 200 ordinary containers as it has the capacity to accommodate 20-25 ton stuff.
" It will reduce the complication of collection and transportation of waste by ordinary containers and hopefully the traffic block it creates will also be zeroed in" added Yaqoob.
Dubai Municipality is starting this new initiative in collaboration with Intercare Company. The total cost of the project is estimated as 10 million.
