(MENAFN - Jordan Times) A prominent Turkish industrialist and businessman on Wednesday briefed Jordanian businesspeople on the 14th MUSIAD International Fair, scheduled to take place in Istanbul in October.

Gazwan Masri, deputy director of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association in Turkey, known as MUSIAD, invited Jordanian companies to participate in one of the largest trade fairs in Turkey and the region.

During a visit to the Kingdom, he met with dozens of private sector representatives and indicated that around 750 companies and 5,000 businesspeople from 84 countries are expected to take part in the event, which is organised every two years.

The trade fair is expected to attract 175,000 visitors this year, according to Masri.

At the same time, the MUSIAD will also host the 16th International Business Forum Congress, which aims at bringing together Muslim businesspeople from across the world.

The MUSIAD International Fair will be inaugurated by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Masri noted.

"The MUSIAD fair will provide unique opportunities for participants to expand their businesses and cooperation networks," he said.

Briefing attendants on the MUSIAD, Masri said the association has 5,600 senior members and represents over 15,000 Turkish companies.

Annual exports of member companies, he added, are around 17 billion constituting around 15 per cent of the gross domestic product of the country.

The Istanbul-headquartered association has 33 branch offices all over Turkey with 120 allied contact points in 44 countries, he noted, indicating that member companies employ over 1.2 million people, according to Masri.

Fahed Taweeleh, director of Amman-based Rakha Businessmen Association, described the MUSIAD International Fair as an opportunity for Jordanian manufacturers to enter the Turkish market and other European countries through Ankara.

It is also a platform to market Jordan as an investment and tourism attraction to participants from 84 countries, he said.

According to Riad Shweiki, head of the Roaya Expo which is the marketing company for the international trade fair in Jordan, the Jordanian pavilion will include participants from Rakha Businessmen Association, the chambers of commerce and industry and the Jordan Engineers Association.
