(MENAFN Press) Selfridges & Co. Launches Britannica 1951-1953
New Fashion Exhibition Pays Homage to Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Dubai, United Arab Emirates Emirati fashionistas keen on high fashion will want to travel to London for Diamond Jubilee weekend to see Selfridges & Co.'s regal take on fifties vogue, say British tourism officials in the UAE. As part of The British Big Bang promotion, Selfridges & Co. has launched Britannica 1951-1953, a new fashion exhibition that pays homage to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and showcases the most desired fashions from the fifties' era, said British tourism officials. The British store stages the exhibition during a vital time in Britain's cultural and sporting history as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is due to take place from 2 “ 5 June and the commencement of the London 2012 Olympics on 27 July. "The exhibition conveys a day in the life of a fashionista from the fifties-era," said Carol Maddison, UAE manager, VisitBritain. "Emirati women are very in tune with global couture and to have a showcase of Her Royal Highness' early fashion portrayed in such a fresh, new light is quite the treat." Britannica 1951-1953 highlights critical must-have outfits for the genteel Jubilee lady, featuring cinched waists, structured tops, Capri pants (introduced to the fashion world in 1948 courtesy of Sonja de Lennart), chic skirts and alluring dresses. In addition to the stylish Jubilee wardrobe, milliner Stephen Jones contributes hats exclusively created for the exhibition, completing the outfits and showcasing them in isolation as superior showpieces, all in champagne pink, the coronation season's definitive colour. The Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of the Queen's reign. Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne on 6 February 1952. Buckingham Palace is coordinating the events of the Diamond Jubilee weekend, 2-5 June 2012, which include a musical concert at Buckingham Palace, the Epsom Derby, and a Thames River Pageant, among many others. In addition, in the lead up to the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend, numerous public events and exhibitions are expected to be held across London and the rest of the country in recognition of the 60 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
