(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Parliamentary relations between the UAE and the European Union and the latest regional and international developments were discussed by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and German member of the European Parliament and member of the Delegation for relations with the Gulf States, including Yemen, Angelika Niebler who is leading the EU Parliament delegation on a visit to the UAE.

In remarks at the meeting, Sheikh Nahyan underscored the advancing of UAE-EU academic, economic, investment, tourism and parliamentary spheres.

Sheikh Nahyan also briefed the EU delegation on the UAE's higher and technology education and underscored the keen interest of the top leadership President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in providing all support and facilities for students and education.

He noted the economic, cultural, tourism and investment openness of the UAE to the rest of the world.

For her part, Niebler stressed that the EU is interested in furthering relations with the UAE.

She also hailed the progress achieved in the UAE in various spheres including the parliamentary experiences.

While in the UAE, the EU parliamentary delegation will hold talks with senior officials and visit governmental departments and facilities as well as the including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

In attendance at the meeting were Energy Minister Mohammed Dhaen Al-Hamli, Head of the UAE Mission to the EU and ambassador to Luxembourg and Belgium Sulaiman Hamed Salim Al-Mazrouei, Secretary General the Federal National Council (FNC) Mohammed Salim Al-Mazrouie, FNC members and ambassadors of EU member states to the UAE.
