(MENAFN - Jordan Times) An 18-year-old woman, who was reportedly stabbed by her uncle on Saturday for refusing to marry his son, was listed in critical condition at a public hospital in Amman on Sunday, official sources said.

The victim, who was not identified by officials, was reportedly stabbed over 30 times by her uncle following an argument over a marriage proposal by his son, according to a senior official who declined to be named.

In his initial testimony to the police, the suspect said the victim had informed him that she "did not wish to marry his son and did not love him, which angered him so he stabbed her repeatedly with a knife", the source said.

"The suspect then headed to a nearby police station and turned himself in."

The woman, whose father is dead, remains hospitalised in critical condition, the source told The Jordan Times.

The criminal prosecutor is currently questioning the suspect and will level charges against him once the "medical condition of the victim becomes clearer", according to the source.

The suspect was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation facility for 15 days pending further investigations, the source added.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the son of a 58-year-old man and his friend in connection with the murder of his father last week, official sources said.

A passer-by found the victim's decomposing body in a deserted part of the Eil area in Maan Governorate on Friday.

After coroners examined the body and other evidence, police concluded that the body was that of a man who had been reported missing by his son over five days ago and found evidence of gunshot wounds on the victim's body.

Coroners estimated that the victim had been dead for at least five days and that he had been murdered in one location and dumped in the area where the body was found.

"We had our sights set on the son from the beginning and on Sunday we decided to arrest him," the source said.

The son reportedly confessed to shooting his father at his home, then asking his friend to help him dump the body in a deserted area, according to a source close to the investigation.

"The son then headed to a nearby police station and reported his father missing and tried to blame the murder on one of his relatives," the source added.

Officials would not comment on the motive behind the killing or how they discovered that the son and his friend were the prime suspects in the incident.

"We are still questioning the pair and will release our findings once the investigation is over," a senior police official told The Jordan Times.
