(MENAFN - Arab News) Under the patronage of Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam in cooperation with the Saudi Society for Critical Care will host The Third International Critical Care Conference from April 21-25 at the Sheraton Dammam Hotel.

According to Mubarak Abdulaziz Al-Melhem, chairman of the conference's organizing committee, this conference will aim to meet the needs of all practitioners in the field of intensive care, pointing out the many scientific lectures, workshops and research papers have been prepared for the three day period, preceded by two days of scientific sessions that focus on clinical skills in the field of intensive care.

Al-Melhem said this global conference will gather more than 30 international speakers and about 200 leading experienced individuals from the Arab world discussing 360 scientific work papers which relates to developments in the intensive care unit, knowledge of emergency, toxins and disasters, the science of anesthesia and analgesics for the treatment of critical cases, the accompanying challenges of keeping the patient in a coma and the difficulty in dealing with their effects.

He said this conference will also include worksheets to discuss protocols that contribute to reducing the side effects of certain types of treatments.

Al-Melhem also added the conference will coincide with the opening of the largest medical device and pharmaceutical exhibition in the Middle East, with the participation of some of the most important global and regional companies in this area.

He also indicated this conference is unique in terms of the topics that will be discussed which cover all the branches and important sub-disciplines in intensive care such as intensive care for adults, intensive care for nervous diseases of the nerves, critical care nursing, critical care for obstetrics and gynecology and nutrition in the intensive care unit.

Al-Melhem is expected to be supported by research findings that will be discussed at the conference as well as recommendations for treatment of critical situations such as cases of poisoning, falling circulation due to infections and microbes, cases of sudden death, acute respiratory cases, best techniques in respiratory support, injuries, strokes, and diseases of the nerves especially affecting people in a severe coma or experiencing convulsions.

There will also be an emphasis on the recommendations on the developments and the skills needed in the rehabilitation of women and childbirth that may threaten the life of mother and fetus, the methods of nutrition for patients in intensive care, and the types of nutrition that helps them to heal while they remain under observation in intensive care.

He also stressed the conference will not lose sight of the discussion of humanitarian aspects relating to the ethics of the profession while providing intensive care in cases of brain death, diagnosis, organ donation and feasibility of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in patients whose health is deteriorating or are not expected to recover.

Al-Melhem also praised the prominent role played by the Saudi Society for Critical Care and the continuous support from the Ministry of Health, its leaders and distinguished members.
