(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The upcoming visit of Kuwait City Governor Sheikh Ali Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou will become a solid base to establish relations of friendship and development between the two cities, Kuwaiti Consul General in Guangzhou Abdulwahab Al-Sager said on Saturday.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Sager said the capital governor's four-day visit, from April 24, comes at the invitation of Mayor of Guangzhou Chen Jianhua and Guangzhou Party Secretary Wan Qingliang.
"As Sheikh Jaber Al-Ali will be the first senior official from the Kuwaiti government to the Guangdong provincial government, his visit will establish friendly and fraternal relations between Kuwait City and the provincial capital of Guangzhou," Al-Sager said, stressing significance of the visit.
He explained that the two cities will sign a friendship and brotherhood treaty on April 25, which is expected to become a framework to advance the prosperity, development and joint investment in accordance with the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
"The agreement will encourage bilateral cooperation and multi-shaped areas of economic, trade and industry, health, education, tourism, environmental protection and investment," Al-Sager said, noting that Kuwaiti Capital Governor will be accompanied by senior officials from Kuwait's oil and trade sectors and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
According to the diplomat, the trade volume between the State of Kuwait and the entire Guangdong Province hit USD 12.1 billion in 2011, up 63 percent, while the value of trade between Kuwait and Guangzhou city alone during the January-February period this year reached over USD 121 million.
