UAE's Enec will not ink additional nuclear deals

(MENAFN) Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) said that it has no plans to sign any additional contracts to establish nuclear power stations, reported Gulf News.

The company, which is the newly formed body that is responsible for realizing the UAE's civilian nuclear program, added that in 2009, it inked a deal with Korea Electric Power Corp (Kepco) to design and build 4 APR 1400 reactors to deliver safe, efficient, clean and reliable electricity to the UAE.

It also said that the decision to select Kepco followed a comprehensive and full evaluation of all 3 bids presented by global suppliers, operators and construction firms in the nuclear energy field.

It is worth noting that Enec has awarded a USD20 billion contract to a consortium led by Kepco to design, construct and operate the 4 new nuclear power plants the UAE is planning to establish by 2020.
