Drowning woman rescued in Ajman 

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A 19-year-old Emirati woman was pulled out of water before she drowned in a suspected suicide attempt at the Ajman beach in the early hours of Wednesday.

A senior police officer said the Rumaila police station was alerted around 2.30am and the marine rescue personnel were on the scene in a few minutes.

"They could hear the frantic cries in the water and managed to track her down. The personnel pulled her out of the water and administered first aid before shifting her to Shaikh Khalifa Hospital," he said.

A Civil Defence source said it was a suicide attempt but the police did not confirm this.

The police officer, who spoke with Khaleej Times, said this was the third rescue mission this year. The rescue personnel had managed to save six persons from drowning despite the rough seas so far this year. Only one person died in the incidents.

He attributed the success in rescue missions to the improved communication among the police departments and the Civil Defence and the personnel's quick arrival on the scenes.

In view of the approaching summer when more people will go for swimming, the police have drawn up a series of safety campaigns on beaches and urged all beachgoers to respect the cautionary notices about dangerous spots.
