(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police have arrested a Nigerian national allegedly for robbing people of their belongings at knifepoint.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sharjah Police received complaints from a few victims who reported that they were threatened by a person holding a knife in his hand, who made away with their valuables.
According to an official with the CID, an Arab national was the first to report that he was threatened and robbed by a stranger while he was sitting in his car parked near a residential building.
"The man told us that he was busy working in his laptop when a stranger opened the front door of the vehicle and sat beside him. The stranger was holding a knife and he calmly told the victim to hand him over all his belongings. Out of fear and shock, the man handed him over Dh1,050 that was in his possession, in addition to his mobile phone and a number of credit and debit cards. The robber immediately jumped off the car and ran away. The victim immediately reported the matter to the police," said the official.
Investigation immediately started after taking details from the victim and suspicion revolved around an African national.
"We managed to find out his whereabouts. While raiding his house, he fiercely resisted the arrest and tried to escape," he added.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing a number of robberies in the same manner. The suspect will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
