(MENAFN) The delay in Dubai Municipality's discussions with the emirate's utility DEWA has led to delay plans to charge all expats housing fees, Arabian Business reported.
Authorities in October said they hoped to be charging all expats a housing fee by June in its city-wide drive to tighten the net on those not yet being billed.
Abdullah Hashim Abdulghafoor, said the fees and revenues officer at Dubai's housing fee department, said the delays in talks means only 65 percent of expats are currently being charged.
Housing fees, billed through residents' monthly utility bills, are calculated at five percent of the tenant's annual rent. Freehold property owners pay five percent of the annual rental value, as calculated by the RERA index.
