(MENAFN - Arab Times) Two Kuwaiti men detained in Iraq are about to be released and are expected to return to the country within the next two days, reliable sources told Al-Kuwaitiah daily.
One of them is identified as Ali Al-Harbi, while the identity of the other is not known. Sources said Al-Harbi was scheduled to return on Thursday evening along with the Kuwaiti delegation that returned from Baghdad after participating in the Arab Summit, but routine procedures delayed the release.
Despite the approval of Iraqi authorities and the promise made by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki during his recent visit to Kuwait, security procedures related to the holding of the summit reportedly hindered the release process.
Kuwait's embassy in Baghdad has not so far received Al-Harbi or the other prisoner, but the matter is expected to be sorted out during the next 48 hours, said sources.
Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid reportedly gave news about the Kuwaitis' release to those who came to receive him at the Kuwait International Airport.
Meanwhile, HH the Amir's initiative to release Iraqi fishermen detained in Kuwait was welcomed by Iraqi authorities, said sources.
