Jordan- 60 dental clinics closed down for violating rules 

(MENAFN - Jordan Times) The Jordan Dental Association (JDA) closed down 60 dental clinics over the past 14 months for violating rules, a JDA representative said on Wednesday.

Menah Burmawi, a member of JDA council, told The Jordan Times that the association is currently working with the Insurance Regulatory Commission to regulate work of companies that offer dental insurance.

He also noted that two companies were shut down this year for offering people impossibly cheap insurance policies.

Burmawi explained that these firms were selling dental insurance cards using door-to-door salesmen,

"They were selling cards for JD10 each and convincing people that it provides them with annual dental insurance."

However, these offers were unrealistic and they were cheating people according to the JDA member.

Burmawi made the remarks on the sidelines of the First Jordanian International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery conference, which opened yesterday.

The three-day conference will tackle issues related to contemporary head and neck reconstruction, biosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw, aesthetic facial surgery and tongue cancer.

Speaking at the opening, Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat said the ministry's school health directorate is giving attention to dental health at schools.

The directorate will coordinate with public schools to send dentists to conduct dental checkups for schoolchildren, he noted.

The minister also noted that a dental clinic at Al Bashir Hospital is currently being equipped to conduct oral and maxillofacial surgeries on public health insurance beneficiaries.
