(MENAFN - Arab News) This refers to the article "Gynophobia on the rise in Saudi Arabia" (March 27). I think it is useless to cling onto topics like woman rise, woman rights etc., and what do actually Muslim writers want to prove?

First of all, Islam is not against women's education, women's advancement, women's driving, as during the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) women companions of the Prophet used to take part in the battlefield, nurse wounded soldiers.

Ayesha (May Allah be pleased with her) was the main source of knowledge for many companions of the Prophet. Islam has been and is the champion of women advancement. History is full of such incidents. Muslim writers need not always look to the West - Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton for instance - for improving women's status. Muslims have excellent Islamic culture in which women's status and positions have been elaborated genuinely and acting upon those principles will definitely improve women's status. Muslims feel proud when they receive medals or prizes by the West.

Muslims have many Islamic role models to emulate. I have seen many top-level Muslim women doctors and professionals working and leading their lives as per Islamic teachings and they are very much successful and are serving the Muslim community and all human beings. What services Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton have done to mankind and at what level have they raised the status of women, except being the wives of prominent personalities.
