(MENAFN Press) In its endeavors towards environmental stewardship-as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign-Qatar Building Company (QBC) is officially partaking in Earth Hour 2012, the world's largest public environmental action.

In addition to encouraging all staff to participate for one full hour on Saturday, March 31, at 8:30pm,QBC has coordinated several of its business premises to go "lights out".

QBC pledges to turn off all non-essential lights (both indoors and outdoors) and unplug all non-essential equipment at five (5) locations: Head Offices, Human Resources Department, Legal Department, Project Site GTC 299 (AlWukairRPS& Associated Pipelines), and Project Site MsheirebDowntown Doha Project “ Phase 1B (previously named Heart of Doha).

The internal awareness campaign involved verbal and electronic notifications to safely implement the energy-saving activities before leaving the building on Saturday and/or during their night shifts.

Mr. Serkut Akdeniz, QBC's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Manager, comments: "QBC is taking a close look at the ways we may operate more efficiently, waste less and reduce our ecological footprint-in our own operations and throughout our supply chain. We hope that through this awareness campaign, our staff will go beyond this hour and make other positive environmental impacts for the benefit of our planet."

QBC joinsover one billion people across the globe to address climate change, and has challenged Qatari students to join the movement, too. During recent Qatar Green Building Council's "Going Green" school presentations (sponsored in part by QBC), Earth Hour is presented to the students as a "call for action" towards environmental conservancy.

Official "before" and "after" photos will be taken in order to share the "lights out" experience and keep the conversation going.
