(MENAFN - Arab News) What's going on here in the US? The fundamentalists and religious extremes have hijacked the Republican Party and it's a safe bet to say their aim and intention is to also hijack the US government.
America's no different than the rest of the world. This is about how the Republicans are doing in their quest.
Republicans, throughout the US, are running on one issue and one issue only this election year. Repeal "Obamacare". What else have they got to run on; three years of "do nothing" obstructionism? Republicans are running against health care reform, the Affordable Care Act, America's two-year-old version of universal health care; and they have put all their eggs in one basket.
Republican budget guru Paul Ryan has a budget fix that calls for the usual deep spending cuts for those who can least afford it and the "Full repeal of Obamacare." This week Clarence Thomas and the conservative Supreme Court takes up the legality of the Affordable Care Act. Still not sold on Republican's one issue campaign for the 2012 election season.
Mitt Romney, in an Op-Ed piece, says he will repeal "Obamacare" as president. Nice going - 40 million now insured Americans will lose their health care coverage because of your power trip, Mitt.
Do you see the irony of this? Romney will be the Republican presidential nominee (Republicans will get creamed if Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich are at the top of the ticket) and he will be campaigning against his own health care creation. "Obamacare" is a copy of "Romneycare" right down to the "individual mandate." And so it goes in America.
