(MENAFN - Jordan Times) A 26-year-old policeman was slightly injured on Monday while attempting to arrest a wanted man in Zarqa Governorate, official sources said.
Cpl. Dia Faouri was stabbed in the shoulder while trying to apprehend the suspect and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, a senior Public Security Department official said.
"Faouri, who has been in the police service for over five years, was treated for his injury and remains hospitalised in good condition," the official, who declined to be named, told The Jordan Times.
The official said the injured officer was part of a patrol that was driving through a Ruseifa neighbourhood at dawn on Monday.
"The unit spotted a man who was trying to break into a vehicle and as they attempted to arrest him, he stabbed Faouri with a switchblade," the official explained.
Upon reviewing the suspect's criminal record, the official added, investigators discovered that he had a long list of criminal offences and was listed as a "dangerous person".
The suspect was referred to the criminal prosecutor for further questioning, the official added.
