(MENAFN - Arab Times) Salafi MP Ammar Al-Ajmi alleged on Sunday that Kuwait's foreign private schools have "clear educational cons and defects." He added that, "in dealing with the students, the schools' administrations and teachers do not observe the State of Kuwait's Islamic customs and traditions."

Speaking to the Arab Times, Al-Ajmi explained "that Kuwait is a conservative country; therefore Islamic values must be preserved in the education system." He believes "the rules that are applied in the public schools belonging to the Education Ministry must also be applied in private schools, such as segregation of genders and Islamic dress codes."

Al-Ajmi assured that the intention "is not to put restrictions on the foreign teachers."

Al-Ajmi questioned the Minister of Education, Nayef Al-Hajraf, on the ministry's role and effectiveness in supervising the conduct of private schools.

He requested information on the number of foreign schools and the nationalities and qualifications of male and female teachers working in them. "What are conditions the ministry requires from the schools' staff when they apply for work positions? How committed is the ministry to these conditions and what are the procedures taken if these conditions are violated?" he asked.

On a similar note, Islamist MP Osama Al-Munawer forwarded Al-Hajraf questions on whether his ministry is advertising the vacant positions at Kuwait University's College of Education.
