(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Experts of sour gas as well as of carbon capture and storage from Total in the UAE and France will gather here on Sunday, 25th March 2012 for the Sour Oil '&' Gas Advanced Technology Exhibition '&' Conference (SOGAT) 2012.
Mr. Jean-Luc Guiziou, Total UAE President, commenting on Total's participation elaborated that innovation will remain the main driver of sustainable growth in Total's oil '&' gas production activities in Abu Dhabi. Total's exploration and production branch continually pushes implementation of technologies to new limits for oil and gas production. Drawing on the complete integration of its multidisciplinary expertise, Total has mastered the capacity for innovation that has rightfully placed itself among the frontrunners in the technologies are strategic to the future of the energy industry.
Relying on synergies with other branches of the Total group in the fields of gas and power, refining and petrochemicals, the exploration and production branch proposes technological solutions that cover the complete value chain from production to finished products and markets.
Mastering the technology to develop sour gas is very important because nearly 40% of the world's gas reserves contain high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The presence of these acid components poses challenges for those companies who are developing and operating the field.
Such sour gas fields are found in Europe, Africa, North America, South America and the Far East. The largest volumes are held in the Middle East and Central Asia. The world's first experience with sour gas field development and production was realised by Total in 1951 at Lacq gas field, in France. Thus, Total became a world pioneer in sour gas production from a high-pressure, high-temperature sour gas reservoir. Since then, the Company has built on its expertise and has innovated techniques to enable the economically viable production of these unconventional resources, in compliance with increasingly demanding safety and environmental requirements.
Total Group has developed techniques and materials to treat the sour gas efficiently and safely. Total's technology has made its way around the world to permit the successful development of more than sixty sour gas fields.
Flagship projects where Total has been involved include Elgin/Franklin (United Kingdom), South Pars and Dorood (Iran), Bongkot (Thailand), Kharyaga (Russia) and Sleipner (Norway).
