(MENAFN - Arab News) Riyadh Mayor Prince Abdulaziz bin Muhammad bin Ayyaf opened the Riyadh Spring Festival near the Eastern Ring Road yesterday. Speaking to reporters after launching the event, the mayor unveiled the municipality's plan to organize the Spring Festival at more than one location.
"We will hold the festival at King Abdullah Park in Malaz and Prince Salman Park from next year onward. A wide variety of awareness and entertainment programs and activities for all segments of society are being held on the sidelines of the 10-day festival, which will end on March 29," he said.
The festival entitled "Gardens and flowers" showcases the art of landscaping, and the major attraction of the event is a carpet made of more than 300,000 flowers of various kinds and colors. An exhibition of design and landscaping, ornamental plants and various plants is also being organized as part of the festival.
It also features a Family Spring Corner where various activities are being held for all members of families, a Play Station with electronic games for children, and awareness corners such as a Corner for Friends of Trees and a Protected House that aims at making aware to visitors the advantages of protecting trees and plants.
Riyadh municipality organized the festival in cooperation with a number of government departments, agencies and agricultural companies. They included police, traffic police, Saudi Red Crescent Authority and the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
