Sharjah: 20 March 2012
The UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) "Ambassadors" are to visit the Bologna Book Fair 2012, which takes place from the 19th to 22nd of March, and is one of the most important international events that is dedicated to the children's publishing and multimedia industry. The three Ambassadors are: artist Naser Naserallah; illustrator Maitha Al Khayat; and children's author and General Coordinator of Etisalat Award for Arabic Children's Literature, Marwa Al Aqroubi. It will be their first visit to the fair.
The Ambassadors were appointed during the Sharjah Book Fair 2011 by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of UAEBBY, who in her role is very keen to convey UAEBBY's vision and positions in relevant cultural scenes - both locally and internationally. It is for this reason that part of the remit of the Ambassadors' visit to Bologna Book Fair will be representing the Board at this and then other international book fairs.
After the announcement of the visit, Sheikha Bodour said: "These three people are exceptional artists and fantastic representatives of our organisation. Our mission is to ensure that quality literature reaches young people, and that we can both learn from what happens in other countries, and show them what we are doing as well".
"By sending these three ambassadors to this important event on the children's publishing calendar, we are ensuring that the UAEBBY continues to stay up to date with best practice, make new contacts for collaboration, and shows the world that the UAE has a vibrant environment for children's literature", she said.
The Bologna Children's Book Fair is considered one of the most important international events dedicated to the children's publishing and multimedia industry. The importance of this fair is seen in the selling and buying of copyrights, the showcasing of the very best of children's publishing and multimedia production, generating new contacts while strengthening professional relationships, discovering new business opportunities, and discussing and debating the latest sector trends.
Sheikha Bodour will be inviting the Ambassadors for dinner on the 20th to discuss their visit to Bologna Book Fair and what the fair and the UAEBBY should achieve from their visit.
This trip was made possible from the financial support from the Emirates Foundation
Dr. Sabha Al Shamsi, Head of Social and Education Programme, Emirates Foundation said: "We're very proud to support the UAEBBY, which does such important work in the literature industry.. By sponsoring the Ambassadors' visit to the Bologna Fair we hope that the exchange of ideas, and the building of new relationships allows the UAEBBY and the children's literature industry in the UAE and the region to continue to flourish".
