(MENAFN) Central Bank of Chile said in its latest report that economy grew by two percent in the fourth quarter from previous quarter, Reuters reported.
Full-year 2011 economic growth, however, hit six percent, below forecasts of about 6.3 percent, after earlier data was downwardly revised.
Domestic demand surged by 9.4 percent in full-year 2011, and by 5.5 percent in the fourth quarter, year on year.
Analysts see the uptick would reinforce expectations that interest rates will remain on hold at five percent, while others expected a possible rate increase by the end of the year.
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera said in January that Chile's economy would likely slow to growth of about four percent this year.
