(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) General Manager and CEO at NGVA Europe Dr. Manuel Lage talks about the future of LNG as a vehicle fuel ahead of the Small-Mid Scale LNG Summit 2012 due to be held in Amsterdam next April.
Small scale LNG has been experiencing considerable growth in the past years and will be gaining even more popularity and importance in the years to come. Many organizations are now investigating the business case and are considering different ways of investment and use of LNG technology. We know that LNG as a source of fuel is becoming more prevalent across the world and there have been a lot of developments with LNG as vehicle fuel recently.
In an interview, Dr. Manuel Lage said, "LNG is opening the use of natural gas as an alternative fuel in long distance road transport. But the interesting point is that there are no other alternatives. When you go for road transport, you use diesel or you use LNG. That s why it s becoming so important in the considerations, not only for the transport industry but also the European Union".
So what is stopping LNG from being rolled out across Europe as the vehicle fuel of choice at the moment, when asked Dr. Lage said, "The lack of infrastructure. In Europe, the development of LNG filling stations has been carried out by the fleet users because they are very aware of the economic interest of LNG against diesel. They converted the trucks and they built their own filling stations."
Dr. Lage and a host of other LNG experts will be gathering at Oil & Gas IQ s Small-Mid Scale LNG Summit in Amsterdam this April, to discuss the future of LNG and how to best align the business case with proven technology. Europe s leading small-mid scale LNG conference is focused on the various business models ranging from creating alternative LNG value chains, the use of LNG as transportation fuel to LNG infrastructure planning and realisation. This year's event will discuss a number of key topics including: Proving the business case; How are things progressing globally?; Accessing new gas markets; LNG and the road haulage industry and LNG Marine developments.
