(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) An Emirati man tried to kill a compatriot by stabbing him at the parking lot of a cinema theatre for hitting on his sister, a court heard on Monday.
The 21-year-old jobless man was charged with murder attempt in the Court of First Instance. According to prosecution records, the incident happened in July end last year.
The alleged victim, a 30-year-old salesman, claimed that the defendant attacked him with a knife for no reason.
He said that he went out of the cinema to the parking lot to have a smoke and he saw two girls about to ride in a car. He alleged that the defendant, with his friends, stabbed him on the abdomen, back and leg until he collapsed. He was rushed to the Rashid Hospital where he was admitted for one month for treatment.
An Emirati woman, 22, said that two men chased and verbally harassed them when she and her girlfriend walked out of the movies after 1.30am towards their car. At that moment the defendant came and fought with the two men. She and her friend left and she was called to the Raffa police station later for testimony.
An Emirati man, 23, said that he had to pull the victim away from the defendant to stop him from stabbing him further. He told the prosecutor that he saw the defendant running towards the victim when he saw the latter hitting on the girls. He drove the victim to hospital.
The forensic doctor said that the victim received deep stabbing on the back and abdomen. The cut reached through the kidney and could have been fatal if he was not treated immediately.
The defendant admitted during the investigation of the Public Prosecution that he stabbed the victim.
