(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Distinguished environmentalists and the efforts to conserve the ecology of the UAE will be recognised as The Emirates Appreciation Award for Environment was announced on Wednesday.
The Dh1-million award will aim at promoting environmental initiatives. It will have five categories open to corporates, government institutions, civil society and individuals.
In line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the award was announced by UAE Minister of Environment and Water Dr Rashid Ahmad bin Fahd. Designed to promote the values of sustainable development and innovation among the local community, the award will recognise outstanding achievements in the field of environment and energy conservation across all sectors of society.
It will support and encourage individual and collective national environmental initiatives that will contribute to the Green Development Strategy of the UAE.
The award being hosted in collaboration with the Higher Committee of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment will be awarded every two years at a special ceremony. Nominations for the first edition of the award are open till June 30.
